Posted by Eric Frost under Chicago Politics , Tribune , Reilly , 42nd Ward , Chicago News , Natarus , New EastsideFrom the Chicago Tribune – “42nd Ward (Loop, Near North and West): Organized labor is pouring great sums of money into a campaign to defeat Ald. Burton Natarus. There’s only one reason: to claim a high-profile victory over someone who stood with Mayor Richard Daley to oppose the job-killing “big-box” ordinance.”

They continue the endorsement by saying that “Now here’s the odd thing: he agrees with Natarus that the big-box ordinance is a bad idea. So why would labor pour thousands of dollars into his campaign? To punish Natarus. That would be bad for Chicago. Natarus is endorsed.”

“…he has earned his keep by promoting renewal, going to bat for schools and helping push through ordinances prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and landlords from disallowing the placement of mezuzas on doorposts.”
According to “The Free Dictionary”, a mezuza is “A small piece of parchment inscribed with the biblical passages Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 11:13-21 and marked with the word Shaddai, a name of the Almighty, that is rolled up in a container and affixed by many Jewish households to their door frames in conformity with Jewish law and as a sign of their faith.”
